More On Lincoln City

"It's the Friday before the first day of the season and I am very excited. It's the same every year. There won't be much sleep had tonight, but however much shut-eye is achieved, I know I'll be up tomorrow bright as a button for the 1000 train to Lincoln, via Peterborough. And as we well know, Peterborough is conducive to a good trip. So let's hope that continues eh?
As I said last week and Englebert earlier this week there is something about this summer that has lead to some massive optimism, which has made the prospect of tomorrow's game all that more exciting. My whole week at work has consisted of talking about how good this trip is going to be (interspersed with a fair share of Torquay mentions) and subsequently boring my colleagues to tears. Not to worry though.
At the risk of repeating myself, over and over again, Ian Hendon has built a strong looking side and barring a significant amount of suspensions and injuries, we'll do alright. I'm confident, in other words, and that's the last time I'll mention it...ish.
I hope to see many familiar faces up at the Bank, the wave of optimism should result in a decent turnout, no? It would be disappointing to see less than 300 up there. Either way, we'll all be enjoying ourselves and having a good old sing song as the season kicks off as well as dancing along to the partly annoying, yet mostly funny and entertaining drum combination in the home section of Lincoln's biggest stand, the corner of which will be our home for the day. Or is that just me dancing? Oh and no sitting in the back row, if I recall correctly.
I only hope it's not a massive anti-climax. I'm sure it won't be, but anything like Chesterfield on the first day of last season, or indeed the Lincoln away game last season, or any other season since 05/06 for that matter, will be most unwelcome. It seems likely that we'll be going with the line-up that beat Ebbsfleet on Saturday, barring Joe Devera in at right back, so there'll be no shortage of attacking options in what is a mix of 4-5-1 and 4-3-3, leaning towards the latter. I worry a bit about our defence, although there are no glaring areas of weakness, it's simply that it is now the weakest area compared to the rest of the pitch. I love our midfield options, that's for sure.
