Inhale and enjoy every minute of this current time. You will miss it when it’s done. Records being smashed left, right and centre. A whopping 23 games unbeaten now, the equivalent to exactly half a season.
Quality. Determination. Resilience. Fight. This team have the whole lot. Cherish what Barnet Football Club are giving you as a supporter currently.
I’d love to give you an in depth analysis of a gritty 1-0 win at a place we normally love a draw. I don’t really have that. It was a fun day out, lagers were consumed and as a game of football, it was pleasantly uneventful.
After some excitable fun in the big Brewdog at Waterloo and several overpriced beers, we boarded a relatively late train South West. Arriving in Woking with kick off approaching, we paid through the nose for a massive detour of a taxi to the ground. We actually found time for the traditional visit to the behind the stand snooker club before entering. Lots of old Barnet faces in here, including someone we hadn’t seen for the best part of fifteen years. Great to catch up and more so, really great to see how many of have been pulled back in current scenario. Impossible to ignore.
A sunny but chilly afternoon for football. Not much to report in the early exchanges but Barnet very much on top.
It had to be the former Woking man, Rhys Browne, who broke the deadlock on 27 minutes. Scruffy in the moment but massive in the bigger picture. Woking’s away side/end doesn’t lend itself to bundles. But we enjoyed it.
This goal saw Barnet grow in confidence and very much continue to control proceedings from here.
This is a hard one to write up. Not much really happened and it never looked in any doubt. Stood with my Bring Barnet Back namesake in the second half, we both commented on how relatively nerve free this was. There’s always a danger, but it never really seemed a genuine one. Owen Evans. Presence. Although he was never really tested.
We’ll put this one in the bank of gritty away wins. Never to be sniffed at. Winning however it comes the main thing. It’s too easy to get used to the good times. The amount of occasions I’ve stood on an away terrace seeing a game like this get away from us. Getting repetitive now - but really, savour it.
We dug in and we did a job. Dean Brennan was absolutely delighted at full time. Roaring with joy in front of a buzzing away end. It’s another step on the road, but like each one in this current context, it felt big.
794 was a decent following. As already alluded to, it’s not a place that lends itself to much of an atmosphere but it was a noisy, excitable departure from the ground and through the park.
A number of Barnet fans popped into The Sovereigns pub near the station post match before going off in different directions. The Wardrobe had driven down and kindly gave a number of us a lift back. A very noisy car disco around the M25 ensued. Home in time to put the kids to bed though with little voice left for reading bedtime stories.
A trip to Altrincham next. Not for me unfortunately though I imagine we’ll be taking better numbers than normal, despite the 5.30pm start. A tough place to go, as demonstrated in our FA Trophy exit in January. This is a very different proposition however, with our hosts in very sticky spot of current form. Points are massive for them as they look to make the play offs again. Relentless (say that in a Dublin accent).
York got back on track after their recent blip with a 1-0 win at Yeovil. They’ll be looking to build on this at Braintree earlier in the day next Saturday. The fact we could kick off only eight points clear is a pretty fantastic position to be in. Once we’ve had next weekend and York’s game in hand on Tuesday 25th out of the way, the permutations of how and when will all be a little clearer.
We’re on our way.
Bring Barnet Back - time to play your part is ticking!

It takes no more than five minutes once registered. We need a minimum of a thousand names on this as soon as possible. At the time of writing, we’re in the higher end of the 800s. Nearly there. Badger everyone you know who might do it that hasn’t already!
Please check your junk mail for any confirmation link when registering, as it could go there. Once you’ve filled this out, tell absolutely everyone you know to do the same. This can’t be something where you rely on others to make the noise. We all have a responsibility to do whatever we can, together, to Bring Barnet Back!
