"Well it's another away game and another defeat for us, quite simply. It's not a game I can comment on as I was not present at Gigg Lane, due to a combination of lack of enthusiasm and largely what you might describe as ""illness"". Yeah, that'll cover it. First I've missed for 18 months.
I did however tune in on Barnet Player and with a summary from Max Bygraves it painted a picture that we are just lacking something. It was compared to the Chesterfield game where we played well in spells, enjoyed good territorial advantage but just didn't have the killer edge. Two shots off target all afternoon does seem to suggest so.
And another blow in the loss of Mark Hughes for a game for two bookable offences. He has been some player for us this season, a real contender for player of the season from the outset and to miss him, even for just the one game is a big loss. Albert Adomah limped off and the extent to which he was injured is yet to be known. Is it just me or has Albert been off the pace of late? Certainly not as effective as he has been previously, in my opinion.
Few positives to take from the game. Craig McAllister though looked strong up front supposedly, as he did on Tuesday night. He seemed to win everything in the air on Tuesday and paired up well with John O'Flynn. Could be a bit of potential in this little partnership.
At the end of the day though, the stats don't lie and it is beginning to look very disappointing. The last six league away games have resulted in defeat with only an FA Cup draw to speak about since late September. We've now slipped to 13th, albeit still within sight of where we want to be but we can't just solely rely on this unbeaten home record to see us through. Shrewsbury have done it before I recall, but it cannot be compared. Away form needs to improve fast.
As for that home form, the game against Bournemouth was encouraging I will say, but the previous two were very disappointing results against teams we really should have beaten as opposed to sharing territory within the league table with them. Two home games follow, one in the league against improving Crewe and a welcome distraction in the FA Cup, where we've a really good chance of making the fourth round again.
However this does bring me on to another point I've wanted to express. How many people does the club actually want to attend on Tuesday night? Charging full price for tickets for a midweek replay, three weeks away from Christmas? I honestly would be surprised to see 1,000 turn up, what with Accrington likely to bring 50 at the most.
What would the club prefer? 1,000 people paying full price, or a real opportunity to get bums on seats with an attractive cut price offer for kids or the like? Even I'm struggling to justify paying £16 to sit in the South Stand for this, I imagine many other season ticket holders feel the same. I guess though that the main thing is to go through to the next round, the red faces from an embarrassing gate will be bearable with a win.
There is a good ticket offer going on the Crewe Help For Heroes game going though, cheap tickets on the North Terrace which should get a few in. You feel though that like Accrington, it is a very very important game though and one we must win. So hopefully this time next week I'll be sitting here in a little more positive frame of mind."
